From the La Paloma Aerodrome it is a 45 minute flight. The pilot is Jorge Montero with over 110 flights to Rincón Bonito and hundreds of flights to Llanada Grande. He owns two twin-engine Islander airplanes with wings for 9 passengers or 750 kg.
In the afternoon, after lunch, it is recommended to do the Ventisquero River Circuit, which goes along the south bank of the river, passes through a group of larch trees, reaches the El Toro Glacier viewpoint, has 3 descents to beaches and reaches the Sector of the Fifty, which has beautiful views of the mountains of the Pumalín and Hornopirén National Parks. (Trekking 7k / flat / 3 hours / easy).
Trekking 10k round trip / 900 m ascent / 6 hrs / moderate to demanding:
The Mirador del Valle Trail follows an old mule path that will take us above the tree line and allow us to enjoy wonderful views of the glaciers and the valley. The trail passes through ancient forests and reaches the lenga forests that grow in the upper parts of the mountain range in this area of Patagonia. The trail has several viewpoints at different heights, with views from the source of the Ventisquero River in the west to its confluence with the Puelo River in the east. If we are lucky, we will be able to see condors in flight.
Lodging at the Mountain House (B-BL-D).
Horseback riding to the bottom of the valley. 22k round trip / 5 hours / flat / easy to moderate:
The round trip of 22 km to the bottom of the valley lasts 5 hours with easy to medium difficulty and is suitable for beginners. Along the way we will cross the Universo, Ventisquero and Raquelita Rivers, visit old mule trails, hike to a spectacular waterfall, visit old larch stands and enjoy spectacular views of the glaciers that surround us. After lunch and a good rest, we will begin the return to Rincón Bonito to experience a traditional roast lamb.
Lodging at the Mountain House (B-BL-D)
Pack Raft to Puerto Urrutia 28 km / 6 hrs / class II+/ moderate:
We will paddle the Ventisquero and Puelo Rivers in a pack raft to the Puelo Libre Pizzeria in the town of Puerto Urrutia, where we will spend the night. The weight of the luggage is taken by the cargo horses (Pilcheros) to Correntoso so that a local truck receives the luggage to take it to Puerto Urrutia, with the objective that the passengers have dry clothes when they arrive from the paddling day.
Night in Hostal Puelo Libre and celebration dinner (B-BL-D).
Trekking 15k trekking departure, 70 meters elevation and 5 hours, to connect with local trucks:
We will use the main trail of the valley, which is easy difficulty, and it runs through forests, pampas, passes through the fields of some of our neighbors and crosses the Alicia River with a zip-line car for public use built by Rincón Bonito for the community. If we are lucky, we will be able to observe and listen to birds such as the great woodpecker, the chucao or the hued hued that inhabit the forests of the area. While we walk without weight, load horses will carry our luggage until we meet the trucks that will take us to the Puelo Libre hostel in 45 minutes.
Termas del Sol and return to Puerto Montt / Puerto Varas:
We begin the return home. Breakfast at 8:00 a.m. to meet the local vans at 9:00 a.m. and drive to Lake Tagua Tagua for 60 minutes, where they will cross by boat to P. Canelo. Here, the transfer awaits you that will take you to Termas del Sol for 4 hours. (B-L). Thus leaving today’s itinerary:
