Route: Sailing from Ushuaia to the Antarctic Peninsula

This Antarctic expedition cruise begins in Ushuaia, Argentina, the southernmost city in the world, where guests embark and set sail across the Drake Passage toward Antarctica.

After crossing the Antarctic Convergence, the voyage focuses on the Antarctic Peninsula and the South Shetland Islands, with daily Zodiac landings and ship-based exploration. The exact route and landing sites are determined by ice, weather, and wildlife conditions, ensuring a unique expedition on every departure.

Expedition Vessels

This expedition is operated aboard modern, ice-strengthened polar vessels designed for extended navigation in Antarctic waters. Depending on the departure, guests will sail aboard one of the following ships:

These vessels are equipped for expedition operations, offering comfortable onboard spaces, advanced navigation systems, and efficient Zodiac deployment for daily landings.

All landings, Zodiac operations, and wildlife encounters are conducted under the strict operational guidelines of the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO).

Excursions & Daily Expedition Activities

Each day in Antarctica is shaped by conditions and opportunities. Guests participate in Zodiac landings, shore walks, and wildlife encounters, guided by an experienced expedition team.

Landings may take place along the Antarctic Peninsula and the South Shetland Islands, offering access to glaciers, ice-filled bays, penguin colonies, seals, and whales. Educational presentations on board provide context on Antarctic wildlife, history, glaciology, and environmental protection.

Pre & Post Expedition: Ushuaia & Buenos Aires (Optional)

This expedition starts and ends in Ushuaia, Argentina. Travellers may choose to arrive earlier or extend their journey afterwards, with optional hotel and transfer arrangements in Ushuaia or Buenos Aires, ensuring a smooth transition before or after the expedition.

Day 1 – Ushuaia

You may arrive in Ushuaia at any time on Day 1. Many guests choose to arrive a day or two before embarkation day to explore this quaint port city at the bottom of South America, and the surrounding region. Based on the arrival information you send in advance, we will arrange for a transfer from the airport to your hotel. A representative will be available to answer your questions in the lobby of your hotel in Ushuaia during your optional pre-departure briefing on Day 1, at 6 pm. Hotel Las Lengas, Hotel Los Acebos, Albatros Hotel or similars.

Day 2 – Ushuaia to Antarctica

In the morning, your luggage will be collected from the lobby of your hotel, transferred to the ship and stored in your cabin. Ship embarkation will occur usually around 4 pm. You and your shipmates will meet at a designated location near the pier, and board the waiting buses for transfer to the ship. Information about embarkation will be posted in your Ushuaia hotel and discussed during your optional pre-departure meeting on Day 1.

Day 3 – Antarctica

Legendary for its high winds and rolling seas, you may get lucky and have surprisingly calm seas through the Drake Passage. Spend your time in the lounge or chatting with your fellow travelers. As you gain your sea legs during the crossing, our Expedition Team will begin their series of presentations to help prepare you for your upcoming Zodiac and land excursions. You officially enter Antarctica when your ship crosses the Antarctic Convergence, a biological boundary that fluctuates around 60° south.
