After settling in at the refugio, you will begin the walk to the Grey Viewpoint.

The adventure begins through a narrow and winding valley that leads to Los Patos Lagoon. As you continue advancing, you will see parts of the immense Southern Ice Field, as well as the ice floes of the lake and you will reach the first viewpoint, from where you will be able to see the Grey Glacier. If the conditions allow it, you can continue walking to the Grey Lookout. From here, you will have closer views of the glacier. After enjoying the incredible views of the glacier, either at the first or second viewpoint, you will begin the return along the same path to Refugio Paine Grande, where you will enjoy dinner.

Day 2: Hike to French Valley and back – 21 km. Frances Lookout Point & 26 km. Britanico Lookout Point.

Today’s walk will begin and end at Paine Grande Refuge. Journey into the heart of the park, skirting the blue waters of Skottsberg Lake. After approximately 2.5 hours of walking, you will arrive at the Italian camp (park rangers), where you will begin your journey to the French Valley. It descends along the same path to the Italian camp and then towards the Paine Grande Refuge. Climb up large rocks and then continue through the forest until you reach the French Lookout. Here, you will be rewarded with incredible views of Los Cuernos, turquoise glacial lagoons and amazing hanging glaciers that fall down the east face of the Paine Grande Mountain (3,050 m.a.s.l.). If you are lucky, you can hear the loud noise of the glacier and the water falling, as well as it is very common to witness an avalanche. Enjoy your lunch box and a well-deserved rest. If the conditions allow it, continue to get the maximum reward with a view from the British Lookout.
